Permanent residence permit for highly qualified persons

Sect. 19 AufenthG regulates a special form of residence permit for the purpose of gainful employment: the permanent residence permit for highly qualified persons.

Conditions for the right of residence

You

are integrated into the living conditions of the Federal Republic of Germany and
have secured your livelihood in the long term without the use of public funds.*
are a scientist with special professional knowledge (e.g. that is proven by scientific honours, patents or professional references of the employer) or
are a teacher in a prominent position (e.g. a professor) or
are a research assistant in a prominent position (e.g. a group leader).

* Indications for the fulfilment of these two conditions could be, for example, that you have not violated any German laws, that you speak German and have a long-term, highly qualified employment contract.

On this legal basis, you are considered highly qualified if there is a special economic and social interest in filling a top position in business and science due to your above-average professional qualifications.
