Permanent residence permit for qualified professionals

Sect. 18c AufenthG was created to encourage qualified professionals to settle in Germany for a very long time.

Conditions for the right of residence

You have

held a residence permit according to Sect. 18a, Sect. 18b or Sect. 18d AufenthG since four years and
a job commensurate with your university degree according to Sect. 18a, Sect. 18b or Sect. 18d AufenthG.
made compulsory contributions to the statutory pension plan for at least 48 months or are entitled to a comparable benefits from an insurance or pension scheme and
provided proof of sufficient knowledge of the German language at level B1.

If you have completed your vocational training or your studies in Germany the period to hold a residence permit may shorten to two years and to make compulsory contributions to the statutory pension plan ist reduced to at least 24 months.

Please note:

Applicants which apply for a permanent residence permit as a qualified professional have to prove their knowledge of the legal and social system and living conditions in Germany. If you pass the "Life in Germany" test you will receive a certificate to provide proof. You can apply to sit the test at every integration course provider. The test is a necessary condition for the application.
